Acrylics and graphite on plywood. My first foray into the exciting world of stencil art — definitely a technique I’d like to explore further. In addition, given the amount of plywood filling our garage, I’ll probably be using wood instead of canvas for my next couple of pieces.
Waldorf + Statler
Inspired by Noelle’s obsession with the Statler plushie in the claw machine at Publix, though I’m not sure where the shrunken head idea came from. On a side note, it was nice to finally figure out what Waldorf’s counterpart was named since no one ever seems to remember (not Astoria). It was actually Statler’s wife who was named Astoria, and was really just Statler in drag. Acrylics, watercolor pencils and markers on canvas.
Oh So Mod

New design for an online supplier of modern furniture. After several major revisions, everyone is happy. The look was inspired by the simplicity of the furniture being featured, and the materials used throughout, particularly the frosted glass. Clients rarely ask for ultra-modern designs, so it was a bit of a challenge to step into the way-back design machine and remember what it’s like to design stark sites like this. Site is in development and will launch this year.
Chleb
8×8″ acrylics and watercolor pencils on canvas. Inspired by my dad’s comfort food — bread and butter. Features a snippet of Moja Piosenka (My Song) by Polish poet Cyprian Norwid. Happy Birthday Tata!
Automoto
Updated: blog is launching shortly, business cards in the works…
Finally! There’s a face to the automoto name. The branding references the company’s basic philosophy: back to basics, hands-on, a unique and authentic echo of the cafe racer culture of the 1960’s and 70’s. An ‘about’ page, contact form, and blog coming soon. The appetizer before the main course, this coming soon page is intended to drive traffic to a blog outlining new developments with our fledgling company — stay tuned for more content coming this week.
Twenty-three

8×8″ acrylics and ink on canvas. I tried playing music while I worked, which led to an odd mix of DJ Shadow, Drop Kick Murphys, DJ Z-Trip, finishing off with the Hot Fuzz soundtrack. I don’t know if I work better with music or without; but I do know that the music kind of gets embedded in the painting, and always resonates with those songs.
Adam is 23, and this is his painting.
Spector Consulting Card

Double-sided business card for Spector Consulting. Simple, bright colors, rounded corners, and the lovely Gotham for the typeface. Client didn’t ask for any changes — please Santa, can I have more clients like this?
Bumbelina Falloverly
Odd title, interesting story. While Katie and I were both learning to ride, we had a tendency to drop our motorcycles. Kind of frequently. Katie’s Triumph Speedmaster is yellow and black, so she christened her bike, Bumbelina Falloverly.
The canvas is my usual 8×8”, and the medium is acrylics and ink.
Today (3/21/2008) is Katie’s birthday, so I’d like to wish her all the best (beer, boys, and bees), and thank her for sticking by me through thick and thin, upright and falloverly.
Deep Blue Identity

Slowly taking shape. Surprisingly this was my first time working with European paper dimensions, despite the fact I’ve previously worked with companies across the pond. The card had a minimal amount of content on it which left a lot more room for some nice design elements.
Open Wide and Say Aahh

Website design for a high-end cosmetic dentistry office. Very soothing and relaxing — no pictures of teeth or apples. It’s funny how I hated gradients for so long, and now they’re my best friends. And it’s probably time to stop using that reflection effect, but I’m not ready to take a stand. Logo was also a custom design.
